In 1990,Culinary Institute at the University of Jinan began to enroll students in culinary and nutritional specialties (pre-1996 food Ru cuisine). In 2002, the Tourism Department changed its name to Tourism College. In 2003, it began to recruit undergraduate students majoring in cooking and nutrition education. In 2009, the school changed its name to the School of Hotel Management. The Culinary Institute was established in July 2017. The University of Jinan is one of the earliest schools in the country to establish a major in cooking and nutrition education. The goal of personnel training is clearly defined, and training programs are formulated to emphasize the combination of theory and practice, and the combination of schools and enterprises.
      As of the end of September 2017, there were 18 faculty members, including 2 professors and 9 associate professors; 7 doctoral students and 8 master students. The teaching staff has a high level of education, a reasonable age structure, and a good echelon of teachers. There are 11 "dual-qualified" teachers, 1 chief technician of Shandong Province, 2 Chinese chefs, 2 national judges of Chinese pastry chefs, and 4 provincial senior examiners.

The College has undergraduate majors in cooking and nutrition education. It has a master's degree in bio-engineering first-level disciplines (food nutrition engineering and biological resource utilization) and Shandong Food Culture Industry Development and Research Base. It has established a team of natural product and functional foods and cooking. , facial points, nutrition analysis and testing, microbiology and many other teaching laboratories have good teaching and research conditions.

The college is positioned to cultivate advanced application-oriented professionals with strong professional adaptability and development capabilities. Numerous medium and high-level professional talents have been transported for nutrition agencies, hotel catering and university logistics, and vocational colleges, and many of them have become the technical backbone and leadership in the industry.

In recent years, the college teachers have successively undertaken 2 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Social Science Foundation. They have undertaken more than 10 projects including the Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the Provincial Department of Education, and the Provincial Social Science Project. They have completed more than 3 million yuan in research funding and published nearly 200 scientific research papers. There are more than 30 patents. To undertake the task of the development of the national test bank for the qualification of nutrition catering workers and public dietitians of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and the proposition work for the relevant occupational skills appraisal in Shandong Province. Focusing on international exchanges and cooperation, it has established cooperative relations with Singapore, France, South Korea and other countries. Since 2013, nearly 20 Korean students have been enrolled each year, and the level of international professional education has been continuously improved.
